Welcome to JFT Guru and Nepali Kanji, products of Tech Bato Pvt. Ltd. ("we," "us," or "our"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy informs you how we collect, use, store, share, and protect your personal data across our website (jftguru.com), the JFT Guru Mobile Application (available on Google Play and the Apple App Store), and the Nepali Kanji Mobile Application (available on Google Play and the Apple App Store) (collectively, the "Services"), and explains your privacy rights and choices.

Nepali Kanji - Local-Only Data

The Nepali Kanji app does not require account creation. No name, email address, phone number, or personal identity data is collected. Your kanji study progress, study streak, and favorites are stored locally on your device only (via SQLite database and SharedPreferences) and are never transmitted to our servers. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all local data.

1. Information We Collect

Note: Sections 1a (Identity Data) and 1b (Contact Data) apply to JFT Guru only. The Nepali Kanji app does not collect these data types. Technical Data (including AD_ID via AdMob) applies to both apps.

We may collect, use, and process the following data through our website and JFT Guru mobile app:

Identity Data: Full name, username, Japanese proficiency level (N1–N5), and profile avatar.
Contact Data: Email address and Phone Number.
Technical Data: IP address, device model, operating system version, browser type, and unique device identifiers (including Advertising ID / AD_ID).
Usage Data: How you navigate our Services, mock test scores, and practice history.
Payment Data: For each payment you start: the plan or product, amount, payment method, order reference, the transaction ID returned by the payment provider, and whether the payment succeeded. For manual bank transfers, the transaction ID and payment screenshot you upload. We never receive your card number, wallet login, or PIN.
Enquiry and Report Data: When you use our Contact form, the Institution Plan request form, or the Copyright Report form, we collect what you enter (such as name, email, phone number, organisation, and your message or report) and your IP address, which helps us block spam. Copyright reports also include the proof of ownership files you upload; these are stored privately and seen only by our team reviewing the report.
Audio Data: Voice recordings captured during "Speaking Coach" sessions within the JFT Guru app, along with the speaking scenario prompt text. These recordings are sent to our own AI server (JFT Guru AI) for speaking performance evaluation. Audio data is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored after evaluation. This data is not used for identifying you personally, advertising, or profiling.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data on both the website and JFT Guru mobile app to:

Register your account and maintain your progress across all platforms.
Process payments, confirm your purchases, and fix billing problems.
If you start a payment but do not finish it, send you up to two reminders by email or SMS. Our team may also call or message you about it. These reminders stop once you pay or the reminder period ends.
Send service messages, such as email verification, password resets, and, if you allow them, browser push notifications.
Answer your enquiries, institution plan requests, and copyright reports.
Process AI-based speaking evaluations.
Serve personalized or non-personalized advertisements via Google AdMob/AdSense.
Protect the Services against spam, fraud, and misuse of our content.
Improve our educational content, app performance, and user experience.

We do not sell your personal data.

3. Third-Party Services & SDKs (App & Web)

Our Services use several trusted third-party tools that may collect data:

Google Mobile Ads (AdMob): Used in the mobile apps to serve ads. They may collect your Advertising ID to provide tailored ads.
Firebase Analytics: Used to understand app performance and usage patterns.
Microsoft Clarity: Used on both website and app for behavior analysis (heatmaps and session replay). Data is handled per the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Google Login: For unified authentication on JFT Guru. We only access your name and email from your Google Profile.
Apple Sign-In: For iOS authentication on JFT Guru. We only access your name and email as provided by Apple.
JFT Guru AI (Speaking Coach): The "Speaking Coach" feature uses our own AI model, developed and hosted by Tech Bato Pvt. Ltd. on a private cloud server. When you use this feature, your voice recording audio and the speaking scenario prompt text are sent to our server for real-time evaluation. Audio is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored after evaluation is complete. This data is not used for advertising or profiling.
Google Gemini AI: Used to power the "AI Weak Point Analysis" feature, which reviews your incorrect exam answers and generates personalized study suggestions. When you request an analysis, your incorrect question content (question text, correct answer, and your answer) is sent to Google Gemini AI (Google LLC) for processing. No personal identity data is included. Data is processed in real-time and is not stored permanently by Google after the response is generated. Google's data handling is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Google reCAPTCHA: Used on our registration, Institution Plan, and Copyright Report forms to block spam and bots. It collects hardware and software information and sends it to Google, as described in the Google Privacy Policy.
OneSignal (Web Push): If you allow browser notifications on jftguru.com, OneSignal stores a notification subscription for your browser so we can send you updates. You can turn notifications off at any time in your browser settings.
Tech Himalaya (SMS): Used to send SMS messages, such as reminders about an unfinished payment, to the phone number on your account.
Payment providers: Dodo Payments, eSewa, and APInepali process payments as described in section 6.
Flutter TTS (Text-to-Speech): Used in the Nepali Kanji app to pronounce Japanese words aloud. This service plays audio locally on your device only - it does not record, transmit, or store any user audio.

3a. Google API Services User Data Disclosure

JFT Guru uses Google Sign-In (via Google OAuth 2.0) to let you create an account or log in quickly. When you choose "Sign in with Google," we request access to your basic Google profile information only, specifically:

Your name (to pre-fill your display name)
Your email address (to create or match your JFT Guru account)
Your profile photo URL (to display as your avatar)
Your Google account ID (a unique identifier used to link your Google account to your JFT Guru account)

How we use this data: We use your Google profile data solely to authenticate you, create or link your JFT Guru account, and display your name and avatar within the app. We do not use your Google user data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose unrelated to providing and improving JFT Guru's core functionality.

How we store this data: Your name, email, Google account ID, and avatar URL are stored in our database as part of your JFT Guru user profile. This data is retained until you delete your account (see section 4).

How we share this data: We do not sell, rent, or share your Google user data with any third parties, except as required by law.

Google API Services Limited Use Disclosure: JFT Guru's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

We only use Google user data to provide and improve user-facing features that are prominent in our app's user interface.
We do not transfer Google user data to third parties unless necessary to provide or improve user-facing features, you provide affirmative consent, it is necessary for security purposes, or it is required by law.
We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements.
No human reads your Google user data unless you have given affirmative consent, it is necessary for security or legal purposes, or the data has been aggregated and anonymized.

3b. Cookies & Your Consent (Website)

On jftguru.com we use cookies and similar technologies in two categories:

Strictly necessary (always on): Cookies that keep you signed in, remember your session, and protect forms against cross-site request forgery. The site cannot function without these, so they are not part of your choice. Your cookie choice itself is also stored in one of these cookies (jft_cookie_consent) for 180 days.
Analytics & advertising (your choice): Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity, which tell us how the site is used, and Google AdSense, which serves the ads that keep JFT Guru free.

When you first visit the website, a banner asks you to Accept all or Reject non-essential. Until you accept:

Microsoft Clarity does not load at all, so no heatmap or session-replay data is collected.
Google Analytics and AdSense run with Google Consent Mode v2 set to denied, meaning no advertising or analytics identifiers are stored on your device. Ads may still be shown, but they are non-personalized.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the website footer, or by clearing your browser's cookies for jftguru.com. Our mobile apps do not use cookies; ad and analytics consent there is handled by the in-app consent dialog described in section 3.

3c. Who Else Can See Your Data

Partner institutes: If you joined JFT Guru through a partner consultancy or institute, that institute and its teachers can see your name, email, phone number, and your practice and mock test results, so they can support your studies.
Our team: Authorised Tech Bato Pvt. Ltd. staff can access account and payment records to provide support, verify payments, and handle reports.
Service providers: The third-party companies listed in section 3, only for the purpose described there.
Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the public.

4. Account Deletion & Data Retention

We provide unified account management for JFT Guru across all platforms:

In-App Deletion: Within the JFT Guru mobile app, go to Profile > Edit Profile and tap "Delete Account".
Web Deletion Link: You can also request permanent account deletion via our official web portal: https://jftguru.com/delete-account.

Once deleted, your JFT Guru account and all associated scores/history will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. Payment records may be kept for longer where the law requires us to keep financial records.

Enquiries and reports: Contact messages, institution plan requests, and copyright reports are kept for as long as we need them to handle the request and keep a record of how it was resolved, and are then deleted.

Nepali Kanji: The Nepali Kanji app does not use accounts. To remove all app data, simply uninstall the app from your device. All locally stored progress, streaks, and favorites are permanently deleted upon uninstallation.

4a. Mock Test Data Retention Policy

Our database has now crossed 50,000+ mock test submissions from students across all platforms. To maintain optimal performance and protect your privacy, we have adopted the following data retention policy effective June 5, 2026:

Retention Period: We retain mock test records, practice session data, and exam submission history for a rolling period of 1 month (30 days) only.
Automatic Deletion: Mock test data older than 30 days is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers. This applies to all students equally - no exceptions.
Scope: This policy covers all mock test submissions, practice attempt logs, score histories, and related session data stored in our database. It applies to all users on both the JFT Guru website and mobile application.
What is NOT deleted: Your account profile, subscription/purchase records, and payment receipts are not affected by this policy and are retained for as long as required by applicable law or until you request account deletion.

We encourage students to review and note their progress regularly. If you need a record of your practice history, please do so within the 30-day retention window as data cannot be recovered once deleted.

5. Data Security

We implement strict security protocols to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost or accessed in an unauthorized way. All communication between our website/app and the server is encrypted using SSL (HTTPS).

6. Payments

Digital purchases on JFT Guru are processed by Dodo Payments (international cards), eSewa, or APInepali (other Nepali wallets and banking), or verified via manual receipt submission. We send a payment provider only what it needs to process your payment, such as the amount and an order reference, and each provider handles your payment details under its own privacy policy. We keep a record of each payment attempt and its result so we can confirm your purchase and resolve problems. We do not store your card details, wallet login, or PIN on our servers.

Nepali Kanji is a free app and contains no in-app purchases or billing of any kind.

7. Open Data Attribution (Nepali Kanji)

The Nepali Kanji app uses the following open-licensed datasets to provide kanji and dictionary data:

These datasets are used under their respective open licenses. No data is sent to these organizations, and they have no involvement in this application.

8. Your Rights

You can ask us to:

tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
correct data that is wrong or out of date (you can also edit your profile yourself);
delete your account and data (see section 4);
stop sending you payment reminders or other non-essential messages.

You can also withdraw cookie consent at any time (section 3b). Email [email protected] from your registered email address to make a request. We handle personal data in line with Nepal's Individual Privacy Act, 2075 (2018), and applicable laws in the countries we serve.

9. Children

Our Services are designed for adults and older students preparing for Japanese language exams. They are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when our Services or the law change. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the latest version. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we will tell you on the website or in the app.
